An Important Note from Mrs. Lambert: As major in-roads are made in technology, educational webtools become more vital in education. Your child will be exposed to a few this year and will certainly want to do more computer work both at school and home in the future. However, as parents and guardians, you might ask, “How do I allow my child to participate and still keep him/her safe from predators and dangerous content online?” Here are a few rules to follow, recommended by FBI Special Agent Dan Vierthaler from Billings:
You are your child’s protector. This is not a matter of privacy or intrusion. You are all that stands between your child and the “certainty of predators on the web.” *Credit given to FBI Special Agent Dan Vierthaler, Billings, Montana What are the expectations and guidelines for online work?
It is very important to learn how to use our classroom devices and sites appropriately. The webtools implemented in this Internet environment allows participants to learn and collaborate together. The purpose is to provide further practice as we learn from each other. As you work on the blog or wiki, it would be helpful to review these guidelines from time to time. Be Kind and Encouraging!
*These guidelines have been adapted from PBwiki's Etiquette for Students http://pbwiki.com/content/eduportal and from other PBwikis developed by teachers. http://www.publicpbwikis.com/educational. Mrs. Lambert has used these resources to develop her own guidelines and expectations for her third graders. |
